OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team peppered the Lake Erie College nets with shots throughout Thursday evening, but the Great Midwest Athletic Conference match ended in a 1-1 tie.
Madisyn Hunt took 13 shots, seven on goal while
Sidney Pruitt accounted for the lone score.
The Panthers (2-6-1, 2-5-1 G_MAC) got an early chance to score in the opening minute of the match, but
Kelsey Humphries missed left. Wesleyan got a second chance on the immediate corner kick as
Breigh Haase's shot went wide while Hunt's following attempt was saved.
The Storm (4-6-1, 3-4-1 G_MAC) could not dodge another attempt as Pruitt converted form 32 yards out off a free kick. Duff tapped the free attempt sideways to Pruitt who put enough velocity on the shot to get through the hands of LEC goalkeeper Marissa Brannon.
Lake Erie settled in defensively and found the equalizer in the 30
th minute on Carley Kandel's sixth goal of the season. Krandel took Brett Pauff's pass down the near sideline and turned the corner to get to the goal for the match-tying goal.
The first half ended in a 1-1 tie. Each team took 10 shots in the second half, six being on goal. Both keepers made the saves to force extra periods. Hunt looked to make quick work of the Storm in overtime as she saw her shot in the 92
nd minute rattle between the crossbar and right post.
Two minutes later the Panthers committed a foul the box, allowing a penalty kick. Ann Kristin Frank's shot was too high, sailing narrowly over the crossbar. Neither team got close to another score in the period as 10 more minutes were put-up on the Panther Field scoreboard.
The Panthers took six shots in the second overtime period, but none would be able to end the game. Brannon made 12 saves while
Taylor Rentchler recorded 10 stops to preserve one point and a tie match.
Wesleyan will host Ursuline on Saturday. The match is scheduled to start at 12 PM.
