OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team took down Ohio Dominican University on Saturday at Panther Field. The Panthers secured three points with the 1-0 victory and earned six points on the week after defeating Malone on Thursday.
Jersey Lopez scored the match's lone goal as Wesleyan controlled the entire contest.
Ohio Dominican was put on defense throughout the match. The Panthers outshot ODU 5-0 in the first half and 10-2 for the match. Keeper Brandyn Bowden was put to the test as
Mattie McNally took the first on-target shot at the 10-minute mark.
In the 32
nd minute,
Carter Ford spun and slipped a pass from midfield in-between two defenders to
Jersey Lopez. Lopez, in stride, split his defenders for a one-on-one chance against Bowden. With the speed of the Panthers midfielder, Bowden didn't even have time to react as Lopez's shot easily passed through the right side of the net.
Bowden had to make six saves on the day, three in each half. The Panthers continued to apply pressure in the second half. McNally, Ford, and
Braeden Myers-Curry all had good chances to provide an insurance goal, but the ODU defense made the saves.
The Panthers' back line and
Matteo Graniero provided their second clean sheet in as many matches. Graniero make one save. Lopez recorded his second game-winner on the season and his third goal to complement three assists.
The Panthers will travel to Canton, Ohio on Thursday to Malone again. The match is scheduled to start at 6PM.
