OWENSBORO, Ky. – Volleyball (3-10, 0-5 G-MAC) lost to Hillsdale (6-7, 2-3 G-MAC) in three sets on Friday. Kentucky Wesleyan were led offensively by
Arielis Hernandez and
Abigail Butterworth with eight kills each.
Kami Parlin added seven kills while
Grace Lewis had 15 assists.
Hillsdale 3-0 Kentucky Wesleyan (25-16, 25-22, 25-20)
SET ONE: Hillsdale 25-16 Kentucky Wesleyan
Hillsdale controlled the opening set early, building a 5-1 advantage and extending its lead to 13-7. Kentucky Wesleyan cut the deficit to 16-10, but Hillsdale closed the set on a 6-2 run to take the opening frame 25-16.
Kentucky Wesleyan struggled offensively in the opening set, recording seven kills with five errors.
SET TWO: Hillsdale 25-22 Kentucky Wesleyan
The second set started off as a back-and-forth affair between the two sides before the Panthers went on a four point run to take a 9-6 lead. The Chargers put together a run of their own, scoring three straight to tie the set at 12-12. Kentucky Wesleyan stayed in the fight, however, fending off Hillsdale's attempts to recover and held an 18-15 advantage towards the end of the set.
Kentucky Wesleyan led 22-21, but a 5-1 scoring run to close the set saw Hillsdale take set two.
SET THREE: Hillsdale 25-20 Kentucky Wesleyan
Kentucky Wesleyan again started quickly in the third set, leading 7-6 before the Chargers scored four straight to go ahead 10-7. The Panthers responded with three straight points of their own to tie the frame at 10-10. Hillsdale remained dominant throughout the remainder of the set, shutting down Wesleyan's attempts to get back into things, winning 25-20 to complete the sweep.
