OWENSBORO, Ky. – Volleyball (3-8, 0-3 G-MAC) lost to Cedarville (5-5, 3-0 G-MAC) in three sets Friday evening. The Panthers were led offensively by
Emmy Goering and
Abigail Butterworth, who finished with 11 and 10 kills respectively.
Ana De Sevilla-Acosta recorded 19 assists, while
Sophie Spanier paced the Panthers with eight digs.
Kentucky Wesleyan 0-3 Cedarville (21-25, 20-25, 15-25)
SET ONE: Kentucky Wesleyan 21-25 Cedarville
Kentucky Wesleyan and Cedarville traded leads throughout the opening set, with neither team able to create much separation. The Panthers used kills from Butterworth and Goering to stay within striking distance, eventually tying the set at 21-21.
Cedarville responded with four straight points to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead.
SET TWO: Kentucky Wesleyan 20-25 Cedarville
Cedarville opened the second set with a 6-0 run, putting the Panthers in an early hole. Kentucky Wesleyan continued to battle back, cutting the deficit to two points at 18-16 behind offensive contributions from Goering,
Hadley Wolfe, and
Mackenzie Bristol.
The Panthers were unable to complete the comeback, however, as Cedarville closed the set on a 7-4 run to take a 2-0 advantage.
SET THREE: Kentucky Wesleyan 15-25 Cedarville
The Panthers came out of the break looking to extend the match, battling Cedarville to a 6-6 tie early in the third set. Cedarville then took control with a 10-1 run to build a 16-7 lead.
Kentucky Wesleyan continued to fight, but the Panthers could not overcome the deficit as Cedarville closed out the match 25-15.
