OWENSBORO, Ky. – Volleyball (3-9, 0-4 G-MAC) lost to Ohio Dominican (10-2, 3-0 G-MAC) in three sets Saturday. Kentucky Wesleyan were led offensively by
Hadley Wolfe with eight kills and four blocks, while
Ella Thomas added eight kills and 11 digs.
Abigail Butterworth added seven kills, while
Kami Parlin and
Emmy Goering each recorded six kills.
Ana De Sevilla-Acosta and
Grace Lewis each finished with 14 assists.
Kentucky Wesleyan 0-3 Ohio Dominican (15-25, 22-25, 19-25)
SET ONE: Kentucky Wesleyan 15-25 Ohio Dominican
Ohio Dominican controlled the opening set early, building a 7-3 advantage and extending its lead to 14-7. Kentucky Wesleyan cut the deficit to 18-13, but Ohio Dominican closed the set on a 7-2 run to take the opening frame 25-15.
Kentucky Wesleyan struggled offensively in the opening set, recording seven kills with 11 errors.
SET TWO: Kentucky Wesleyan 22-25 Ohio Dominican
Kentucky Wesleyan came out with its strongest start of the morning in the second set. Two early aces from Thomas helped Kentucky Wesleyan take a 3-0 lead, and the Panthers continued to build momentum throughout the set.
Kentucky Wesleyan pushed its advantage to 15-8 before Ohio Dominican responded with seven consecutive points to even the set at 15-15.
The teams continued to trade points late, with Kentucky Wesleyan holding a 22-21 lead. Ohio Dominican scored the final four points of the set, however, taking the second frame 25-22 and moving within one set of the match victory.
SET THREE: Kentucky Wesleyan 19-25 Ohio Dominican
Kentucky Wesleyan again started quickly in the third set, taking an early 2-0 lead before Ohio Dominican tied the score at 6-6.
Ohio Dominican then used a 6-0 run to take a 12-6 advantage. Kentucky Wesleyan continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 21-17 late in the set, but Ohio Dominican maintained control and closed out the match with a 25-19 third-set victory.
