ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team opened the season with a tough 1-0 loss to the University of Missouri – St. Louis. The Tritons scored in the 23
rd minute and blocked Wesleyan from finding the equalizer.
The Panthers showcased a pressure offense to start the match, forcing action on the Tritons' side of the field. As the UMSL defense settled in, they were able to manufacture a goal in the 23
rd minutes. Brady Freeman got free to tally the lone goal of the match.
In the 27
th minute the Panthers had two golden chances to find the equalizer. A foul just outside the 18 resulted in a free kick.
Filip Ksiadz saw his shot blocked by the wall. The rebound bounced right back to
Jersey Lopez who rifled another shot, this one got through but was saved by Will Meyer.
The first 45 minutes ended with the Tritons holding a 1-0 lead. The Panthers had a few set pieces available in the second half, but those possessions came-up empty. The Tritons did not sit back and tried to get an insurance goal, but the Panthers denied their scoring attempts as well.
Matteo Graniero finished with four saves.
The Panthers will return home on Tuesday to host Missouri Science and Technology. The match at Panthers Field is scheduled for 5 PM.
