ASHLAND, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team (3-18, 0-4 G-MAC) dropped both games of their doubleheader versus Ashland on the road on Sunday.
The Eagles (14-8, 4-0 G-MAC) started the scoring early with a first-inning run before the Panthers offense got going in the top of the second.
Paige Crain and Hannah Beasley both singled and advanced on a wild pitch to put two in scoring position with no outs. Abby Cunningham came up next and delivered a double down the left field line to drive both runs in and put Wesleyan up 2-1.
That score held until the bottom of the fourth, in which the Eagles scored three runs to claim a 4-2 advantage. Wesleyan got one immediately back in the top of the fifth. Chloe Apple singled and was later driven in on a Crain double to pull the Panthers within one at 4-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles plated three more runs to grab a strong hold on the game at 7-3. That tally ended up being the final score as the KWC offense couldn't put together a rally in the last couple frames.
Ashland took the second game of the day, 8-0. The Eagles scored three in the second and five in the fourth in the five-inning victory.
The Panthers finally host their home opener this Saturday, March 28th, with a doubleheader against the Walsh Cavaliers beginning at 12:00 PM. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
