OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's tennis team blanked Tennessee Southern, 4-0, Saturday evening inside Centre Court.
It's the first win at Kentucky Wesleyan for first-year head coach Teddy Morse.
The match started with the Panthers prevailing in doubles play. The twin duo of Nick Stoever and Marc Stoever won 6-3, followed by Caleb Stovall and Adryan Taylor coming out on top also at 6-3. Jose Ferrandis and Miguel Perlaza were leading 5-3 when the point was clinched.
Wesleyan needed just three singles matches to go their way to win the overall match as the two programs were playing to clinch. Ferrandis earned the Panthers second point with a quick 6-0, 6-2 victory on Court 1, and Stovall got KWC at the doorstep with a 3-6, 6-0, 10-4 triumph on Court 3.
Nick Stoever earned the clincher with a 6-3, 6-2 decision on Court 5.
The other three Panthers all led on their respective courts when the match was clinched. Marcos Tiferes led 7-6 (7-3), 3-2 on Court 2, Taylor led 6-4, 3-1 on Court 4, and Marc Stoever led 6-2, 4-1 on Court 6.
Wesleyan will look to build on their momentum this Wednesday, February 11th, in a matchup versus Asbury. Play is set to begin at 11:00 AM with the location to be determined based on weather.
