Saturday Split

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team split Saturday's double-header against Purdue Northwest University. Wesleyan received a strong pitching performance from Cole Peaslee in the opener but lost 4-0. In the day's second game the Panthers slugged past the Pride 9-1.

Cole Peaslee pitched three scoreless innings to open the game, but an RBI single in the fourth gave the Pride a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame a throwing error allowed two more runs to cross the plate, giving PNW a 3-0 lead. The Pride added an insurance run in the seventh.

The Panthers managed just two hits in the game. Peaslee pitched six innings and allowed three runs, one earned run on five hits with 10 strikeouts.

In the second game, the Panthers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first. Ellis Hurt connected with a sharply hit ground ball that deflected off the pitcher and allowed the runners to move up one station and giving Wesleyan an early 1-0 lead.

The Panthers busted the game open in the bottom of the second as Elijah Stockton and Jacob Riegel reached base to start the inning. Liam Hutson cleared the bases with the biggest blast of the game, a three-run homerun over the right field fence. Rhett Dysholm followed with a solo shot over the right centerfield fence, giving Wesleyan a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Pride (2-3) managed one run in the top of the third, but Ethan Ell would not allow another one. The Panthers gave Ell four more runs in the sixth to help secure the victory.

Ell pitched a complete game, seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. The victory is Ell's second of the season. Dysholm was two for three with a homerun. Hutson finished the game one for three with a homerun, walk, and three RBIs. Stockton also added two hits on the day.

The Panthers will have one more game against the Pride on Sunday. First pitch at Panther Park is scheduled for 12PM.
