OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer (5-3-2, 4-2-2 G-MAC) rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes to earn a gutsy 3-3 draw against #25 Tiffin (6-1-5, 5-0-3 G-MAC) Thursday evening at Panther Field.
The Panthers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. In the ninth minute,
Mattie McNally found the back of the net off an assist from
Jersey Lopez, who recycled a bouncing ball from a corner to an eagerly awaiting McNally to give Kentucky Wesleyan a 1-0 advantage.
Tiffin responded in the 33rd minute, converting a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1. The teams went into halftime tied, with Kentucky Wesleyan looking to regain the lead against the nationally ranked Dragons.
Tiffin took its first lead in the 60th minute when Callum Ellington combined with Noah Purtz and Zach Garcia on a couple of through balls into the box. The Dragons extended their advantage in the 79th minute, as Garcia added a goal on a wicked volley out of the air to put Kentucky Wesleyan behind 3-1 with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Rather than fold under the pressure, the Panthers mounted a quick response.
Jhaeem Bryan found himself in front of goal on a recycled free kick and scored his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute to bring Kentucky Wesleyan within one at 3-2. Just over a minute later, Lopez picked up his second assist of the match, finding the head of
Hamish Strong on a free kick for the equalizer.
