Shorthanded Panthers Tie with Walsh

OWENSBORO, KY. – It was an adventurous second half for the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team on Homecoming Saturday. After a 3-3 tie on Thursday against top-25 Tiffin University, the Panthers found themselves in another tie, 2-2, against Walsh at Panthers Field.

The Cavaliers always seemed to have an answer for the Panthers throughout the contest. The Panthers took four shots on target in the first half, but all four were saved. The Cavs outshot Wesleyan 6-5 in the opening half and 15-11 for the match.

However, it was the second half where all the excitement happened. Mattie McNally got the scoring started with a goal in the 62nd minute. Jersey Lopez collected his fourth assist of the week with a lofted serve into the box where McNally put away the shot into the left side of the Cavs' net.

A few minutes later in the 69th minute, Cavalier keeper, Nick Bertolini wrestled an offensive player to the ground trying to prevent a score. Subsequently, the Panthers received a penalty kick and Carter Ford converted to extend the lead to 2-0.

The lead was cut in half two minutes later with a Cavs goal. In the 77th minute Walsh was the beneficiary to a penalty kick, but Matteo Graniero was up to the task making the save. Unfortunately for the Panthers a red card to Josh Agambar forced Wesleyan to remaining 12 minutes with 10 men.

The man advantage proved to beneficial for the Cavaliers as an unmarked Aleksandar Miketic, in the 86thminute, used a bicycle kick to tie the match. Wesleyan continued to defend and the match ended in a tie.

The Panthers will travel to Midland, Michigan on Thursday for a match against Northwood. The match at Dean Soccer Field is scheduled for 6PM CT.
