PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team earned their fifth consecutive win with an impressive 70-46 triumph over Lake Erie Monday afternoon.
Neither team led by more than four in a back-and-forth first quarter. Riley Neal and Myah Montgomery each had five points and a three-pointer in the opening ten minutes.
The second quarter turned into one of the most dominant periods of the season for the Panthers thus far. Wesleyan won the frame 21-6, including a 12-0 run to close out the half that was highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Montgomery and gave KWC a 37-21 halftime advantage.
Lake Erie wouldn't get much closer the rest of the way. The Storm cut their deficit to 15 with three minutes left in the third, but the Panthers reeled off a 12-4 run, headlined by Emma Bruwer's and-one and three-pointer, to head into the final quarter with a 58-35 lead.
Ella Finley's three-pointer to cap off an afternoon that featured a complete team effort for the Wesleyan. 10 different Panthers got in the scoring column and all 16 received playing time in the victory.
Montgomery led the way with 16 points and four threes, Neal was right behind her with 15 points and six rebounds, and Bruwer joined them in double-digits with 11 points and five rebounds.
KWC next returns home for a matchup versus the Chargers of Hillsdale at 5:30 PM on Thursday, January 8th, at the Owensboro Sportscenter. The men will follow at 7:45 PM and both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
