OWENSBORO, KY – Kentucky Wesleyan (13-7, 9-5 G-MAC) got back on track on Saturday with a 64-57 win over Ohio Dominican (8-12, 3-9 G-MAC). Wesleyan women's basketball currently sits in fourth place in the G-MAC with six games remaining on the schedule.
Georgia Acompanado began her impressive play early, checking into the game and scoring five of Wesleyan's first seven points of the contest.
Lena Stinebrickner and
Carson Sisk each connected from behind the arc to give KWC an impressive 15-6 lead after the first.
Lily Hoagland opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and a bucket in the lane on consecutive possessions.
Vilborg Jonsdottir drilled a three at the halftime buzzer to put Wesleyan up 29-21 headed into the locker room.
Emma Bruwer scored two buckets, leading an 11-0 Panther run to open up the second half. With 4:18 remaining in the third,
Myah Montgomery made her second triple of the quarter giving Wesleyan their biggest lead of the day, 46-26. Jonsdottir beat the buzzer again, scoring a layup as the third quarter clock expired.
Early in the fourth,
Iratxe Amorrortu Sainz showed off the flash with a behind-the-back assist to Acompanado. The Panthers from Ohio Dominican did not go down without a fight, leading a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter while shooting 75% (3/4) from three-point range.
Riley Neal sealed the win at the charity stripe, making five free throws in the final minute.
Acompanado led the Panthers with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Neal recorded 11 points, five rebounds, two steals, and one block. Hoagland and Amorrortu Sainz scored seven each. Bruwer finished with six points and three steals.
Wesleyan will travel to Ashland, Ohio, next Saturday for a 12 p.m. matchup against the Eagles.
