Wesleyan Records Fourth Consecutive Victory, 78-67

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Three Panthers scored 18+ points to power the Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team to a 78-67 victory over Ursuline on Saturday afternoon.

A competitive first quarter began with a Myah Montgomery three-pointer off a nice pass from Vilborg Jonsdottir. Ursuline (3-9, 0-5 G-MAC) responded by scoring the next eight points and held a slim 12-10 lead heading into the next period.

The second quarter was just as competitive as both offenses got going. The Arrows opened the frame by scoring the first eight points to build a 20-10 advantage, but Wesleyan closed the quarter strong. Montgomery had eight points and two three-pointers to help the Panthers to just a three-point deficit at halftime, 32-29.

Wesleyan had a big offensive third period, scoring 26 points and finally getting over the hump. An 8-2 run, highlighted by consecutive threes from Emma Bruwer and Carson Sisk, put the Panthers up 50-44 with just under two minutes left in the quarter.  The road team was able to maintain that lead going into the fourth at 55-51 after Georgia Acompanado drove for a layup at the buzzer.

Early in the fourth, with Wesleyan holding a 55-53 advantage, the Panthers reeled off a 9-0 run to grab full control at 64-53. Acompanado was unstoppable in those final ten minutes, totaling eight points and several rebounds to close out the 78-67 triumph.

Bruwer tallied 19 points, four rebounds, and two steals as the team's top scorer. Both Montgomery and Acompanado logged 18 points, with the former adding four rebounds and three steals and the latter registering a team-high seven rebounds and two steals.

The Panthers are back at it for a rare Monday afternoon matchup versus Lake Erie in Painesville, Ohio, on January 5. Tipoff is set for 1:00 PM and the game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
