Oilers Best Panthers

OWENSBORO, KY – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team (12-7, 8-5 G-MAC) lost 69-58 to Findlay (11-8, 7-5 G-MAC) on Thursday evening. Riley Neal led the Panthers with 17 points and six rebounds.

It was a back-and-forth contest throughout the first half. Iratxe Amorrortu Sainz made a triple just over three minutes into the game to make it a 6-5 Oiler lead. Trailing five points with under a minute left in the quarter, the freshmen took over. Lily Hoagland checked into the game and immediately sank a three-pointer. Seconds later, Georgia Acompanado got a steal and fed Ricky Kapteijn for another three. This 12-second spurt gave Wesleyan a 16-15 lead after the opening quarter.

With 7:01 remaining in the second quarter, Riley Neal found an open spot in the zone and nailed an elbow jumper. On the ensuing possession, the senior forward made a layup to give the Panthers a 22-18 lead. Later in the quarter, Neal made a triple to put Wesleyan back on top. Acompanado's three with 1:09 left in the half gave KWC a 32-30 halftime lead.

Neal opened the second half with another three-pointer. Findlay responded with an 8-0 run that spanned nearly five minutes of play. Kapteijn stopped the bleeding with a layup inside. Carson Sisk converted on two layups late in the quarter to keep the Panthers in it. The Oilers led by three at the end of the third.

Wesleyan struggled in the final segment. Findlay led a 9-3 run halfway through the fourth. This spelled trouble for the Panthers as the Oilers poured it on in the final minutes, winning the quarter 23-15.

Kapteijn finished with eight points, including two triples. Acompanado recorded seven points, six assists, and three steals. Emma Bruwer tallied seven points and four rebounds. Vilborg Jonsdottir dished out four assists.
