OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team (12-6, 8-4 G-MAC) recorded a 20-0 third quarter run to power the Panthers to a 74-67 comeback victory over Cedarville on Saturday.
KWC now holds a17-11 all-time series lead against the Yellow Jackets and have won nine of the last 10 matchups.
Wesleyan jumped out to an early 12-7 advantage as Riley Neal poured in seven quick points. Cedarville responded with a 10-0 run to end the first quarter and headed into the second up 17-12.
The Yellow Jackets (8-10, 3-7 G-MAC) continued to control a low scoring second period. An and-one by Lily Hoagland and a driving layup by Emma Bruwer sent the Panthers to halftime down just two, 28-26.
Cedarville scored the first seven points of the second half to extend their lead to 35-26, but Wesleyan followed with perhaps their best stretch of the season. The Panthers scored the next 20 points and forced five turnovers in just over four minutes of play to take a commanding 46-35 advantage. During that run, Myah Montgomery had an and-one, two fastbreak layups, and a three-pointer.
KWC would lead by as much as 23 in this game and, in total, recorded a 43-11 second half run. Cedarville would close the game on a 16-0 run to come within seven, but the Yellow Jackets simply ran out of time as Wesleyan solidified their 74-67 win.
Montgomery and Bruwer each totaled 21 points to lead the offensive attack. Montgomery added a career-high 11 rebounds for her first career double-double, and Bruwer added four rebounds and three steals.
Neal was the only other double-digit scorer with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists. The Panthers totaled 13 steals in the game, with each of Bruwer, Iratxe Amorrortu Sainz, Carson Sisk, and Georgia Acompanado logging two or more steals each.
Wesleyan returns to the Owensboro Sportscenter this coming Thursday, January 29th, to face off against the Findlay Oilers at 5:30 PM. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
