Panthers Struggle in Loss to Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team (11-5, 7-3 G-MAC) fell 64-38 against the Walsh Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.

Wesleyan now trails 12-8 in the all-time series, but has prevailed in five of the last seven matchups.

The Cavaliers got off to a fast start and never looked back, leaning heavily on their defense all afternoon. Riley Neal hit a three-pointer in the first minute of the game, but the Panthers would only score three points the rest of the first quarter and trailed 14-6 after the opening ten minutes.

Neal scored again to open the second, but Walsh responded with a 9-0 run to take firm control at 23-8. By halftime, the home team had built a 33-11 advantage over one of the top teams in the G-MAC.

Wesleyan began the third period with a 7-0 burst to give themselves some momentum, but that was as good as things would get for KWC. Although Neal managed to pour in eight points in the frame, the Cavaliers increased their lead back to 20 going into the final quarter.

The fourth was just a formality, and the Cavaliers managed to have another strong quarter to close out their 64-38 win.

Neal scored a team-high 13 points on top of six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Iratxe Amorrortu Sainz was next in line with six points and three steals.

Wesleyan will look to bounce back next Thursday, January 22nd, versus Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Tipoff is set for 4:30 PM and the game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
