Panthers Battle to Scoreless Draw

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Illinois Springfield Friday night at Panther Field.

Wesleyan is now 0-1-1 on the young season, while Springfield moved to 0-0-1 after their season opener.

Both teams had plenty of chances in the match. UIS recorded 14 shots, including four shots on goal, and the Panthers had seven shots of their own, including three on goal.

For KWC, Haylie Panter, Deca Burr, and Haley Osborne all logged a shot on goal. Panter was inches away from tallying the first goal of the season for the team, going off the top crossbar in the second half.

Goalkeepers Abby Payne and Ally Welch each played a half, combining for a shutout of Springfield with major help from starting defenders Steeley Walker, Maci Onstott, and Krystina Kelley.

"After playing last night, we had several kids play a lot of minutes both nights," head coach Ty Stauffer said. "I thought our concentration and fitness looked really good tonight. Also, we took advantage of the opportunities to get forward, which we needed to improve from last night. Overall, I'm really pleased."

The Panthers now turn their attention to a tough non-conference game versus former G-MAC foe Trevecca Nazarene on the road. The two programs will kickoff at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 11th in Nashville.
