Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team was defeated 16-25, 20-25, 22-25 by Ashland Sunday inside Jones Gym.
The Eagles (7-2, 2-0 G-MAC) thoroughly controlled the match, sending the Panthers to 1-8 (0-2 G-MAC) this season.
After a struggle of a first set, Wesleyan battled to within one point at 14-13 in the second. Ashland then went on to earn 11 of the next 18 points, prevailing 25-20.
The third set was the Panthers' best showing of the match. After trailing 16-11, Wesleyan went on an 11-6 run to tie the set at 22. After an Ashland timeout, the Eagles recorded the next three points to finalize the set and match.
Havanah John had a team-high nine kills and Hadley Wolfe came in behind her with seven on top of three blocks. Ana De Sevilla-Acosta logged 15 assists to lead the way.
Maddie Hanshew put up a team-high ten digs and two aces. Emmy Goering followed close behind with nine digs to add to four kills and two blocks.
The Panthers head back on the road to take on the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville on Friday, September 26. First serve is set for 6:00 PM in Cedarville, Ohio, and live on FloCollege.
