Findlay, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader against the Findlay Oilers on Sunday afternoon.
In Game 1, both teams were quiet for the first couple of innings, but the Oilers came alive in the third. The home team used several singles and a crucial error to put up six runs in the frame and shut out the Panthers the rest of the way in Wesleyan's 8-0 defeat.
The Oilers again struck first in Game 2, scoring three runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth to take an 8-0 advantage.
This time, the Panthers fought back. In the top of the fifth, Hannah Beasley led off with a single and Immi Mann doubled down the left field line to set up Wesleyan with no outs. Later, after Augusta Garr reached on an error that allowed Beasley to score, Cam Mann singled to drive in Immi Mann and Garr eventually crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put the Panthers within five at 8-3.
In the top of the sixth, Wesleyan added another run. Grace Colvin singled and Immi Mann recorded another double that scored Colvin and cut the Findlay advantage to 8-4.
The Oilers grabbed the momentum back with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth, effectively putting the game away. The Panthers were able to tally one more run after Augusta Garr, Lexie Onyett, and Chloe Apple all logged singles to load the bases and Guinny Garr drove her sister home, making the final score 11-5.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow, Monday, April 7 for a doubleheader at Tiffin beginning at 12:00 PM. Both games will be available to stream live on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
