Wesleyan Suffers Defeat in First Two vs. Walsh

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan baseball team fell in the first two of a four-game set vs. Walsh on Saturday at Panther Park.

Game 1 was a pitcher's duel, with Wesleyan starter Evan Oakley posting yet another impressive outing (7.2 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 8 SO).

Walsh got on the board first in the top of the fourth with a solo home run, but the Panthers responded not long after in the fifth. Tate VanHooser led the frame off with his fourth home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Later in that same inning, Logan Molnar singled and Liam Hutson followed with his own single to get Molnar to third. Jase Mizell came through with a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Molnar to put the Panthers on top 2-1.

The two starters continued to dual heading into the eighth frame. Oakley came back out to start the inning and was greeted with a leadoff baserunner on an error. The Cavaliers took advantage, knocking two singles to score that baserunner and tie the game at 2-2. Walsh ended up scoring two more runs in the eighth, with help from two more Wesleyan errors, to take command at 4-2.

The Panthers couldn't put a rally together, ultimately falling by that score in Game 1.

Game 2 was even less favorable for Wesleyan. The Cavaliers scored two runs in the first, and that was all the road team would need as the Panthers failed to push a run across in the seven-inning affair.

Walsh added two runs in the fifth, taking home the doubleheader sweep with their 4-0 victory.

The Panthers have a chance to exact their revenge tomorrow, Sunday, April 27, in another doubleheader against the Cavaliers beginning at 12:00 PM at Panther Park. Senior Day festivities are set to follow the two games.
