Wesleyan Falls to Open G-MAC Slate

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team began conference play on Friday afternoon, falling in both games of their doubleheader vs. Cedarville at Foster Field.

The Yellow Jackets started fast with two runs in the first inning of Game 1 and never looked back. Cedarville added three runs in the second, one in the third, and one in the fifth before Wesleyan made a push.

In the bottom of the fifth, Grace Colvin, Lauren Pellerito, Augusta Garr, and Cam Mann tallied a single each to put up two runs for the Panthers. With two outs, Onyett reached on an error that allowed Garr to score, and a passed ball would eventually let Mann score as as well to move Wesleyan within three at 7-4.

Unfortunately, the Panthers couldn't get anything else going on offense. The Yellow Jackets added one more in the seventh on their way to the 8-4 victory.

Augusta Garr had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense. Mann, Onyett, Pellerito, and Colvin each had one hit in the effort.

Game 2 began similarly to Game 1. Cedarville tacked on two runs in the first, three in the third, and two more in the fourth to once again go up 7-0.

Wesleyan was able to get three runs across in the bottom of the fourth. Colvin, Immi Mann, and AJ Middleton all singled to load the bases before Hannah Beasley knocked a single of her own to score Colvin. Garr then followed with another single to get Middleton across the plate. Finally, Cam Mann grounded out but drove in her sister to cut the deficit to 7-3.

The Yellow Jackets added another in the top of the fifth. In the bottom half, the Panthers used their momentum to score two more runs on an Immi Mann RBI groundout and another Hannah Beasley RBI single.

Later, in the bottom of the sixth, Chloe Apple recorded an RBI triple to move Wesleyan even closer at 8-6.

The Yellow Jackets then responded with a four-run top of the seventh to put the game away, sweeping the Friday doubleheader.

Colvin led the way with three hits in Game 2. Augusta Garr, Guinny Garr, and AJ Middleton each had two, and Chloe Apple had the lone extra-base hit with a triple.

The Panthers next head to Trevecca Nazarene to battle the Trojans in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19. Game 1 is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
