OWENSBORO, KY - At Panther Park, the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team saw their bats get hot against the Purdue Northwest in a doubleheader on Saturday. Wesleyan applied pressure with aggressive base running coupled with 15 hits on the day. Experiencing sunny but cold weather conditions, the Panthers secured victories in both games, scoring a 5-2 win in game one followed by an 11-7 triumph in a game two, pulling their season record to an even 5-5.
The first game saw effective pitching from
Evan Oakley who completed six innings, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts. Particularly notable was
Rhett Dysholm, who went two for two and contributed an important RBI. In the second game, with
Isaac Rose on the mound, the Panthers outdid themselves by scoring 11 runs.
Colson Perry emerged as a standout, going three for three and driving in two runs.
In the day's opener the Panthers scored one run in the third and three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
Liam Hutson capped off the three-run inning with a RBI single to left. The Panthers added another run in the fifth which was more than enough run support for Oakley.
Meanwhile, the Panthers' dominant second inning in the second game, where they piled six runs due in part to Pride errors, helped solidify a daily sweep of the Pride.
Logan Molnar and Rhett Dsyholm each drove-in runs in a six run second inning.
The Pride answered with three runs in the top of the third to pull within 7-3. Perry's two-run single highlighted the fourth inning, the Panthers added four runs in the frame to build an 11-4 lead.
Sam McFarland pitched the final two innings to closed out the game for the Panthers.
Kentucky Wesleyan will continue their home stand as they face Purdue Northwest once again, on Sunday, at Panther Park. First pitched is scheduled for 12PM.
