Albertville, Ala. – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team (0-3, 0-0 G-MAC) suffered two losses on Saturday as part of the Charger Chillout.
In the first game of the day, Wesleyan got to work quickly in the top of the first, as both Augusta Garr and Cam Mann earned singles and Lexie Onyett reached on an error to load the bases. After the next two Panthers popped out, Chloe Apple came through with a single to center field to score the first two runs of the game.
Later, after a scoreless first by Garr, the Bucs used a single and a triple in the bottom of the second to cut the Panthers lead in half at 2-1.
Both pitchers began to settle in for the next few innings, leading up to the top of the fifth. Immi Mann was hit by a pitch to begin the frame, Hannah Beasley followed with a single, and Immi Mann eventually scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Cam Mann to extend the Wesleyan lead to 3-1.
Wesleyan extended their lead in the top of the sixth, scoring two more runs featuring a single by Grace Colvin, a triple by Lauren Pellerito, and another single by Beasley.
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Bucs finally got to Immi Mann (L, 0-2). Using two walks, a single, and a triple, Christian Brothers scored three runs to come within one at 5-4.
Cam Mann doubled to begin the top of the seventh, but the Panthers were unable to drive her in. That would come back to be a crucial hold for the Bucs, later scoring the tying run in their turn at the plate to send the game to extras.
With Colvin starting on second in the top of the eight, Apple worked a walk and Pellerito singled to drive in Colvin and put the Panthers up 6-5. Unfortunately, Christian Brothers responded with two runs in the bottom half, including the walk-off game winning single to keep Wesleyan out of the win column with the 7-6 triumph.
Cam Mann, Beasley, and Pellerito each had two hits in the game, with the former recording a double and the latter tallying a triple.
The second game of the day for the Panthers was a much quicker affair. Mississippi College scored one run in the first, six in the second, two in the third, and two in the fourth to trigger the run rule and prevail 11-0.
Onyett, Apple, and AJ Middleton each logged a hit in the game, with Onyett's double being the lone extra-base hit.
The Panthers have two more games left as part of the Charger Chillout, set to battle Trevecca Nazarene at 11:00 AM and Delta State at 1:30 PM.
