Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan basketball team took care of business against the Tiffin Dragons, prevailing 84-70 on Thursday evening.
The Panthers improved to 16-5 overall and 10-3 in the G-MAC, while Tiffin fell to 5-16 overall and 3-10 in the conference.
With Wesleyan leading 17-16 early, the Panthers reeled off an 8-0 run, highlighted by two Kennedy Miles three-pointers and a Terrence Ringo Jr. slam, to build a 25-16 advantage.
The Dragons fought back to tie the game at 28 after scoring seven unanswered, but the Panthers had a strong answer. Wesleyan scored 15 of the next 17 points to close the half as both Miles and McIntire scored 12 first-half points to help the home team to a 47-35 lead at the break.
The Panthers channeled that dominating segment in the majority of the second half, leading by as much as 21, but Tiffin didn't come all this way to fold easily. With Wesleyan leading 80-62 and looking to cruise to the finish line with under four minutes left, the Dragons reeled off an 8-0 run to come within ten with just over two minutes to play.
That was as close as the Dragons would get, as Wesleyan scored the only four remaining points in the game and prevailed 84-70.
Logan McIntire finished with a team-high 23 points, on top of five rebounds, five assists, and two steals, while shooting a scorching-hot 9-12 overall and 4-6 from outside the arc.
Big man Fatih Huyuk had his way once again, scoring 16 points on a perfect 7-7 shooting, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out five assists.
The other two double-digit scorers for the Panthers were Miles (14 points, three rebounds, four assists) and Edward Jones Jr. (11 points, four rebounds, and two assists).
Wesleyan next prepares for perhaps their biggest game of the season, set to battle the Hillsdale Chargers in a rematch of last Saturday's overtime defeat. Tipoff is set for 2:15 PM inside the Sportscenter, with the women tipping at 12:00 PM beforehand.
