OWENSBORO, KY – Wesleyan women's hoops (15-9, GMAC 11-8) defeated the Storm of Lake Erie (4-20, GMAC 1-17) 88-57 on a rare Monday matchup at the Sportscenter. Today's contest was a makeup of a previously canceled game from earlier in the season.
Shiya Hoosier began her impressive outing with a three-pointer only 43 seconds after the opening tip off. Although it took the Panthers a while to get going in the quarter,
Riley Neal's layup with under a minute left gave Wesleyan a 15-6 lead after the first.
Neal continued to score down low in the second, leading an 8-0 run halfway through the quarter to extend the Panther lead to 18.
Carson Sisk drilled a huge triple off a feed from
Vilborg Jonsdottir with 42 seconds left in the first half. Jonsdottir then took it herself and made a scoop-layup at the halftime buzzer to make the score 38-18.
Myah Montgomery sunk consecutive triples early in the third. Hoosier got open off a clean turnaround and made the jumper. The veteran guard then drilled a three on the ensuing possession to make the Panther lead 21 entering the final quarter.
Wesleyan continued to score at-will in the fourth quarter, shooting 67% on 15 shots. Neal scored seven points down the final stretch to guarantee the dominate win.
Hoosier and Neal finished with 17 points each. Hoosier banged home three triples while Neal pulled down eight rebounds, as they ripped away three steals each.
Emma Bruwer scored 13 points while Jonsdottir added an impressive 12 points and seven assists.
Arielle Dabu chipped in nine points.
Wesleyan will compete in their final regular season contest on Saturday at Thomas More at 12 p.m. The Panthers are riding a three-game win streak as they sit just one game behind the 5
th place Findlay Oilers in the G-MAC standings. G-MAC tournament action will begin next Tuesday, March 4
th.
