Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team moved to 12-0 at home this season with their 92-74 triumph over Ashland on Thursday night.
The Panthers improved to 19-6 overall and 13-4 in the G-MAC, while the Eagles fell to 14-10 overall and 10-7 in the conference.
The first half was a close battle, with Ashland taking an early 20-15 headed into the under-12 timeout. Later, Logan McIntire hit his second three-pointer of the half to tie the game at 25, and his hot shooting continued for the rest of the first 20 minutes.
The junior sharpshooter closed the half with another three-pointer and two more jumpers for a total of 15 first half points, helping Wesleyan to a 44-38 halftime lead. Terrence Ringo Jr. had a big half on the other end of the court with a remarkable four blocked shots on top of 11 points and five rebounds.
Ashland kept the game close for the first few minutes of the second half, but Wesleyan began to pull away with roughly 12 minutes to play. Coming out of the under-12 timeout and leading 63-54, the Panthers reeled off an 11-2 run, highlighted by three-pointers from McIntire and Edward Jones Jr., to take command at 74-56.
It was smooth sailing from there for Wesleyan, with the Eagles not coming any closer than 15 points as the Panthers improved their undefeated home record to 12-0.
McIntire finished with a team-high 25 points on 9-15 from the field and 5-10 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and added four assists and two steals to his ledger.
Wesleyan had five other double-digit scorers for a total of six, which is their most in a game this season. Ringo Jr. had 14 points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots, Jones Jr. had 13 points and three blocked shots, and Kennedy Miles had 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Quentin Toles and Alex Gray rounded the group out, with the former having 11 points, four rebounds, and six assists and the latter adding 10 points and six rebounds.
The Panthers now look to Saturday, February 22, for another home matchup vs. Ohio Dominican. Both the men and women will be celebrating Senior Day, with the women tipping at 12:00 PM and the men following at 2:15 PM.
