OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team secured a decisive 72-58 victory against Ohio Dominican in their Great Midwest match-up at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday.
Logan McIntire continued his hot play while
Edward Jones Jr. made the best of Senior Day, securing Wesleyan's 13th win at home thus far this season.
From the opening buzzer, Wesleyan continued their aggressive offensive play, taking an early lead with a three-pointer by
Quentin Toles.
Logan McIntire and Toles dazzled the crowd with their sharpshooting, each nailing multiple three-pointers, propelling the Panthers to a 37-30 advantage by halftime. Tied at 24, the Panthers closed the half outscoring ODU 13-6.
Edward Jones Jr.'s notable fastbreak three-pointer, assisted by McIntire, highlighted a series of plays by the Panthers that allowed a seven point cushion at the break.
The second half saw Wesleyan maintaining their lead, effectively countering every move by ODU. Defensive efforts were fortified by blocks from
Alex Gray and
Terrence Ringo Jr., crucial in keeping the Panthers in front. McIntire's fourth three-pointer of the game gave the Panthers their biggest lead of the day, 14-points, with less than four minutes left.
Top performers for the Panthers included McIntire, who led the scoring with 22 points. The Panthers' sharpshooter scored 25 points against Ashland on Thursday. Toles added 17 points while Ringo Jr. commanded the glass with 10 rebounds. Jones Jr. scored 16 points and manage managed five assists. Overall, Kentucky Wesleyan showcased a blend of strong three-point shooting and robust defense. Wesleyan converted at 45% from the field, while Dominican committed 15 turnovers and shot 41%.
As the Panthers improve their season record to 20-6, focus shifts to the upcoming encounter with Lake Erie College on Monday afternoon, at the Iconic Owensboro Sportscenter. The team aims to maintain their momentum and secure another victory in the G-MAC play.
