Wesleyan Basketball Turns Focus to Crucial Road Trip

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's and women's basketball teams head on the road this week, set to battle Northwood in Midland, Michigan, on Thursday and Findlay in Findlay, Ohio, on Saturday.

The Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team had another 2-0 week at home, moving to 11-0 this season inside the Sportscenter on their way to receiving votes in the NABC Coaches Poll for the first time this season. The Panthers defeated Tiffin 84-70 on Thursday, then earned perhaps their biggest win of the season in the 79-58 triumph over Hillsdale on Saturday, exacting revenge for their overtime road loss just a week earlier.

In the victory against Tiffin, Logan McIntire led the way with 23 points on a scorching-hot 9-12 shooting overall and 4-6 from three-point range. Edward Jones Jr. had a big-time performance in the latter game vs. Hillsdale, pouring in 25 points and five rebounds on 9-12 shooting from the floor and 3-4 from outside the arc.

The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team swept their week as well, downing Tiffin 85-80 on Thursday and earning perhaps the biggest win of their own season with the 71-68 victory over Hillsdale on Saturday.

Myah Montgomery set her career-high with 23 points on top of five rebounds in the win over the Dragons. Against Hillsdale, the veterans led the way as senior Sydnee Richetto put up 22 points and 5th-year Shiya Hoosier added 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists on 7-10 shooting overall and a perfect 3-3 from three-point range.

About Northwood Basketball

The Northwood men's basketball team (7-16, 3-12 G-MAC) has struggled this season, sitting in last in the conference among the 12 teams. Graduate senior Elijah Watson has been the leader of the Timberwolves this season, averaging 13.9 PPG and 5.2 RPG, and junior Will Young II has been right behind him with 13.2 PPG and 3.5 RPG. The Panthers will be looking to sweep the season series after defeating Northwood 85-50 in Owensboro earlier this season on January 23.

The Northwood women's basketball team (11-11, 9-5 G-MAC) is currently in fifth among the 13 teams in the conference. They're led by an impressive "Big 3" in redshirt freshman Lea Holmes (15.5 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 2.6 BPG), senior Maddie Voelker (14.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 38% shooting from three), and junior Maeve St. John (13.7 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 5.8 APG, and 2.6 SPG). The Timberwolves downed Wesleyan 79-63 in Owensboro on January 23, so the Panthers are aiming to flip that script Thursday night.

About Findlay Basketball

The Findlay men's basketball team (20-3, 13-2 G-MAC) has been the best team in the G-MAC this season and is currently ranked No. 13 in the NABC Coaches Poll. The Oilers have a remarkably balanced attack, with sophomore Will Aljancic at the forefront averaging 14.3 PPG and 5.7 RPG. Junior Jagger Landers (10.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 50% shooting from the field) and freshman Ian Ioppolo (10.0 PPG and 45% shooting from outside the arc) are the other Oilers averaging double digits. Wesleyan, sitting just one game behind Findlay, eye first place in the G-MAC if they're able to pull off the road triumph.

The Findlay women's basketball team (18-6, 11-4 G-MAC) is coming off a massive two-point victory on the road over Malone on Saturday and is now fourth among the 13 teams in the conference. Graduate Kate Ellis has been one of the best scorers in the G-MAC, averaging 15.0 PPG while shooting over 50%. Junior Alyssa Ziehler has also been a strong force, averaging 10.6 PPG and 6.5 RPG while shooting over 50% as well.

Both doubleheaders will be available to stream on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
