COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team (4-2, 0-0 G-MAC) began conference play with a 66-60 victory over Ohio Dominican Thursday afternoon.
Wesleyan built a slim three-point lead after the first quarter, capped off by an Emma Bruwer layup and two Carson Sisk free throws. Bruwer had six points in the opening frame.
The second period was much of the same. Georgia Acompanado had two layups in those ten minutes, but the Panthers were only able to increase their advantage by one and took a 26-22 lead into the locker room.
The third frame was where Wesleyan was able to earn some breathing room. Riley Neal hit back-to-back three-pointers and Avah Montgomery followed with a three of her own, all coming in the final three minutes of the quarter as the Panthers led 45-35 going into the fourth.
KWC led by as much as 15 after Sisk recorded an and-one, but ODU managed to claw back within four with just a minute and a half to play. A crucial and-one by Bruwer and free throws by Neal and Myah Montgomery put the game away in the final minutes.
Wesleyan had a very balanced offensive attack. Neal recorded 13 points and four rebounds, Myah Montgomery totaled 12 points and six rebounds, Bruwer had 11 points and five rebounds, and Acompanado tallied ten points and three steals.
Avah Montgomery and Carson Sisk each logged eight points, and the former added five rebounds to her ledger.
The Panthers next travel to Findlay, Ohio, to take on the Oilers on Saturday, December 6. Tipoff is set for 12:00 PM and the game will be available to watch live on FloCollege.
