OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 G-MAC) will be heading to their Thanksgiving gatherings happy after defeating Midway 95-61 Wednesday afternoon inside the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Wesleyan jumped out to an 11-4 lead, highlighted by five points from Riley Neal and a jumper from Lily Hoagland, to set the tone for the afternoon. By the end of the opening quarter, the Panthers extended their lead to 15 at 29-14, capped off by an Emma Bruwer three-pointer.
Midway (5-2, 0-0 RSC) continued to scratch and claw, battling Wesleyan to a tie in the second frame. Myah Montgomery had five points in those ten minutes as the Panthers led 44-29 at the half.
Montgomery and Carson Sisk each hit threes to give Wesleyan a 21-point lead, and the Eagles wouldn't get much closer the rest of the way. Montgomery got another bucket and Lena Stinebrickner swished a three to close the third and send the Panthers into the final quarter up 70-48.
The Panthers managed to extend their lead even further in the fourth. The Shehan sisters got into the action, with Samantha Shehan hitting two threes and Alexis Shehan earning two layups and grabbing five rebounds.
Montgomery totaled a season-high 21 points and added five rebounds on the afternoon. Bruwer continued her torrid start with 16 points on 60% shooting. Stinebrickner and Neal each added nine points.
The Panthers have a week off before traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to begin conference play against Ohio Dominican on Thursday, December 4. Tipoff is set for 4:30 PM and the game will be available to watch live on FloCollege.
