Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team won the first set before ultimately falling 29-27, 9-25, 23-25, 20-25 Friday evening inside Jones Gym.
Neither team led by more than three in a tight first set. The Storm took a 23-20 advantage after an attack error, but Wesleyan fought back to tie the score at 24-24, highlighted by a Tessa-Jo Allen service ace. Later, with the set still tied at 27, a kill by Grace Carter and a bad set by the road team gave the Panthers the 29-27 first set triumph.
After the Storm prevailed in the second set, the third was close once again. Lake Erie took a quick 10-5 and led by as much as eight in the set, but Wesleyan continued to fight. With the score at 18-10, the Panthers reeled off a 9-2 run, headlined by three kills from Grace Carter, to pull within one at 20-19. Lake Erie then scored five of the final nine points to take a 2-1 match lead.
The fourth set was a carbon copy of the previous. The Storm again took a quick lead, although not as big at 10-5. Later, with Lake Erie leading 18-13, the Panthers went on a 6-2 run, capped off by a Kami Parlin ace, to cut their deficit to one at 20-19. The Storm then closed on a 5-1 burst to finalize their 3-1 win.
Hadley Wolfe piled up 16 kills on the evening. Ana De Sevilla-Acosta connected with her often, totaling 38 assists and 14 digs.
Grace Carter also had a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Wesleyan has their final match of the season tomorrow, Saturday, November 15, against Ursuline at 5:00 PM. The Panthers will their six seniors as part of Senior Night pregame.
