OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team capped off their season with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Ursuline Saturday evening inside Jones Gym.
The Panthers built an early 13-8 lead in the first set, highlighted by two service aces from Maddie Hanshew. The Arrows then reeled off a 7-2 burst to tie the score at 15 and would go on to win the set, taking a 1-0 match advantage.
From there, it was all Panthers in front of a raucous Senior Night crowd. With the second set tied at 7-7, the home team recorded the next five points on another service run from Hanshew to take a 12-7 lead. The Arrows fought valiantly and would end up tying the score late at 23-23, but Grace Carter landed a kill before Emmy Goering and Havanah John teamed up for the set-winning block to tie the match at 1-1.
Ursuline got off to a fast 4-1 start in the third before Wesleyan registered the next four points to take the lead right back at 5-4. Later, with the Arrows leading 19-16, the Panthers used kills from Goering and John to tie the tally at 19. UC again responded with another 4-1 run to go up three, but the Panthers had yet another response of their own. Ana De Sevilla-Acosta notched a kill, landed a service ace, and assisted Hadley Wolfe on another kill to lead the way as the Panthers secured the final five points in the set and took a 2-1 match advantage.
The home team continued to lean on that momentum and their supportive fanbase in the fourth set. With the score tied at 9-9, Wesleyan collected the next three points and never trailed again. Sevilla-Acosta connected with Wolfe once more for the match-winning kill as the team rushed the floor to top off their last match of 2025.
Wolfe totaled 16 kills and two blocks on the evening. Goering was right behind her with 15 kills and ten digs, notching another double-double.
Sevilla-Acosta had a banner night, recording career-highs in assists with 44 and digs with 18.
Before the match, Wesleyan honored their five seniors: Tessa Jo-Allen, Maddie Hanshew, Havanah John, Sydney Kennedy, and Stella Kleffman.
