Panthers Stung by Yellow Jackets

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team fell to Cedarville 23-25, 17-25, 20-25 inside Jones Gym on Saturday.

After the Yellow Jackets scored the first three points of the first set, Wesleyan went on a 9-2 run, capped off by a Kami Parlin service ace and a Gracie Newton kill, to grab a 9-5 lead. It was a back-and-forth battle from there, culminating in the set being tied at 22, and Cedarville earned three of the next four points to take a 1-0 match lead.

After a second set that saw the Yellow Jackets build their match advantage to 2-0, Cedarville got off to a quick 7-3 lead in the third set and looked to be on the verge of ending the match. Wesleyan fought back, using aces by Tessa-Jo Allen and Maddie Hanshew to pull within one at 14-13. The road team then decided to step on the gas, ending the set with a 11-7 run to take home the victory.

Hadley Wolfe led the way with 12 kills and a block. Hanshew and Allen each had three aces on the day. Ana De Sevilla-Acosta tallied 28 assists.

Hanshew added eight digs to her line, while Parlin and Emmy Goering each recorded seven. The latter also had two blocks, right behind Havanah John with a team-high three.

Wesleyan next heads to Findlay, Ohio, for a battle against the Oilers, who received votes in the latest AFCA/TARAFLEX Division II WVB Poll. First serve is set for 6:00 PM on Friday, November 7, and the match will be streamed live on FloCollege.
