Identical Panthers

COLUMBUS, OH. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team put together a gutty performance late Saturday night. Winners of their last three matches, Wesleyan was looking to add to their Great Midwest point total, but they would have to do it on the road. After a slow start the Panthers tied the match 2-2 to secure another point in the G-MAC standings.

Being five hours from campus, the match kicked-off at 8PM local time or 1AM in the United Kingdom. Dominican scored early on a penalty kick in the 11th minute. Wesleyan tried to respond off a few free kicks, but the shots were wide or saved. Hamish Strong attempted to score on a header from a free kick in the 35thminute, but his shot was saved.

MattieShortly thereafter ODU broke away to the other end of the field, while the Panthers defense was still in transition, Dominican scored with a shot into the top right corner of the Panthers' net. Back on their heels, Wesleyan looked to counter and were awarded a penalty kick with less than a minute left in the half. Haakon Torvbraaten saw his shot towards the right side of the net saved as ODU went into the break trailing 2-0.

Right out of the gate, the Panthers were on the attack in the second half. Jhaeem Bryan took the first shot of the period in the 46th minute. Cade Fenton took his chance moments later, but both shots went wide. On the attack again in the 63rd minute, the Panthers had a numbers advantage in the ODU box and a takedown and foul allowed the Panthers another penalty kick. This time Torvbraaten's shot passed underneath the outstretch arms of the keeper.

Possession was clearly in the hands of the Panthers the second half and the pressure was relentless. In the 84th minute Jersey Lopez found Mattie McNally in front of the ODU net, McNally powered a shot over the keeper to tie the match.

With momentum on their side the Panthers looked to steal a victory away from Dominican. McNally got two shots in the final six minutes, but both were off target and the match ended in a tie.

McNally had four shots on the night, one on goal. The Panthers have collected 10 points in their last four matches. The Panthers will host Lake Erie on Thursday Night. The match at Panther Field is scheduled for 7:30PM.
