Win Streak Pushed to 10 With Panthers' Triumph Over Walsh

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team pushed their winning streak to ten with a 66-61 triumph over the Walsh Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon inside the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Wesleyan improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the G-MAC, while Walsh fell to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the G-MAC.

Walsh began the game on a 13-4 run, putting the Panthers on their heels early. It was a defensive battle for most of the first half, with neither team crossing the 20-point plateau until there were less than six minutes left, and the Cavaliers managed to maintain their lead going into the break at 29-20.

The Panthers started the second half strong, using a 16-6 run in the first six minutes to take the lead at 36-35. The run included a three-pointer and two pull-up jumpers by Edward Jones Jr.

Wesleyan largely held the Cavaliers off until the road team scored six unanswered points to cut their deficit to 50-48 with just over seven minutes to play.

It was a back-and-forth contest from there, although Walsh could never get over the hump. The Cavaliers cut the lead to one three times in the last three minutes, but consecutive driving layups followed by game-icing free throws by Kennedy Miles stamped the Panthers' 10th straight victory.

Miles led the way with 16 points and seven assists on top of two rebounds, a block, and a steal. Jones Jr. showed out on the defensive end with a whopping five blocks and a steal while adding 13 points and three rebounds.

Fatih Huyuk had a strong paint presence once again, making all six of his field goal attempts and logging 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Alex Gray, as per usual, did it all with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

The Panthers next head on the road for four straight games, starting with a men's/women's doubleheader in Painesville, Ohio against Lake Erie. The women tip off at 4:30 PM and the men follow at 6:30 PM.
