Cedarville, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team completed a 4-0 road trip with their 83-64 victory over Cedarville on Saturday afternoon.
Wesleyan improved to 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the G-MAC conference. Cedarville fell to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the G-MAC with the loss, with Wesleyan exacting revenge for their loss earlier this season to the Jackets.
The first quarter was a high-scoring affair, with both teams not having any trouble putting the ball in the basket. Riley Neal had seven points in the frame as the Panthers built an early 24-17 advantage.
Back-to-back threes by Neal and Arielle Dabu sparked a 10-0 Wesleyan run to begin the second quarter that stretched the lead to 34-17. The Yellow Jackets fought back as close to within six in the period, but the Panthers were able to maintain a nine-point cushion at 47-38 headed into the break.
A 16-2 run, highlighted by two three-pointers by Sydney Richetto and one each by Neal and Myah Montgomery, gave Wesleyan sizable lead about midway through the third quarter. Seven more points from Montgomery in the fourth quarter put the game away for the Panthers, concluding the 83-64 triumph.
Wesleyan made their living on the fast break, scoring 23 fast break points as opposed to just 10 for Cedarville.
It was a balanced offensive attack for the Panthers, as Montgomery led the way with 19 points on 7-12 shooting and 3-7 from outside the arc. Neal poured in 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot, and a steal while shooting 6-10 from the field and 3-4 from deep.
Richetto totaled 15 points on 6-9 shooting overall and 3-4 from three-point range, and Dabu logged 13 points, four rebounds, and five assists on 4-6 from the field and 2-4 from outside the arc.
The Panthers defense held Cedarville to 40.9% (27-66) from the field overall and 12.0% (3-25) from three-point range.
Wesleyan finally returns home on Thursday, January 23 to battle the Northwood Timberwolves. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM inside the Owensboro Sportscenter, with the men to follow at 7:45 PM.
