Panthers Lose Tough Battle Against Northwood

OWENSBORO, KY – Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball (9-6, GMAC 5-5) dropped Thursday evening's match-up against conference foe Northwood (9-9, GMAC 7-3) 79-63.

The Timberwolves jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. The Panthers responded with a 7-2 run, capped off by a triple made by Carson Sisk to cut the lead to four. Minutes later, Sisk drilled two more threes to diminish the Northwood advantage to 24-18 at the end of the quarter. The freshman forward set her career-high three-pointers made in a game in the first quarter.

Moments into the second quarter, Wesleyan went on a 9-0 roll to take their first lead of the game. After a back-and-forth quarter, Shiya Hoosier sunk a three with less than a minute remaining. Wesleyan trailed by three points at halftime.

Arielle Dabu made a three and then drove for a layup shortly after in the early minutes of the third period. Myah Montgomery and Sydnee Richetto made consecutive three-pointers to make it a two-point game. The Panthers continued to battle, as Vilborg Jonsdottir drove and got her layup to fall at the third quarter buzzer.

It was a one-possession game entering the final quarter before things took a turn in favor of the Timberwolves. A three-point deficit quickly turned into a ten-point deficit within the first two minutes. Hoosier made another triple late in the game, but it was not enough. Northwood won the quarter 21-8.

Dabu led the Panthers in scoring with 13 points while grabbing four steals. Sisk finished with 12 on the night. Richetto and Montgomery scored ten each while Montgomery snagged six rebounds. Jonsdottir added six points and six assists.

The Panthers next matchup will be at the Sportcenter on Saturday as they face Malone at 12:45 p.m.
