Indianapolis, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team fell in both matches of their doubleheader on day one of the UIndy Invitational on Friday.

In the first match, the Panthers were defeated 14-25, 14-25, 17-25 by the Maryville Saints. Kentucky Wesleyan hit .074 with 23 kills but struggled to slow down the .242-hitting Saints as Maryville collected 37 kills.

Grace Carter had a team-high six kills while Tessa-Jo Allen and Havannah John had five kills each. All three connected often with Julia Kupper, as the setter racked up 16 assists on top of two aces.

Defensively, libero Embry Burgess had a team-high eight digs and Kentucky Wesleyan recorded five blocks as a team.

 The second match of the day saw the Panthers battle the Daemon Wildcats. The Wildcats, who lost their season-opener to the IUP Crimson Hawks in their first match of the day, downed Kentucky Wesleyan by a score of 19-25, 25-27, 13-25.

Jo-Allen was a force again for the Panthers, tallying a team-high five kills with a block and two digs. Kupper notched a double-double with 10 assists and 10 digs while adding two kills and Ana De Sevilla-Acosta impressed as well with eight assists and eight digs off the bench.

Next, the Panthers (0-2, 0-0 G-MAC) play two more matches tomorrow as part of the UIndy Invitational. First, Kentucky Wesleyan takes on Grand Valley at 11 a.m. CT, then faces off against host Indianapolis at 5 p.m. CT.
