HILLSDALE, MI. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team dropped two games on the road Sunday afternoon. The Panthers were swept by Hillsdale College with a 5-4 loss in the day's opener before a 5-1 loss in the series finale.
Seth Wright and
Brayden Bush each produced strong pitching performances.
Braden Vinyard started the scoring for the Panthers in the opener with a two-out RBI single. Vinyard added to the lead in the third as he drove-in
Braxton French with a double. The Chargers got one-run back in the bottom of the fourth as they trailed 2-1.
The Panthers were held scoreless in the top of the fifth, but the big blow came in the bottom of the inning. A three-run homerun capped off a four-run frame for the Chargers.
In the top of the seventh,
Bryce Zupan walked to start the inning while
Myles Pallister homered to left to pull the Panthers within one. Back-to-back singles from
Nick Wimber and French put the tying run in scoring position. A wild pitch put the go-ahead runs in scoring positions, but Vinyard struck-out to end the game.
Wright completed five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Vinyard was three for four with a double and two RBIs.
In the finale the Chargers scored one in the first, two in the third, and one run in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
Braxton French drove-in a run in the top of the sixth, but the scoring for the Panthers stopped there while Hillsdale negated the run with one of their own in the bottom half.
Brayden Bush pitched four innings, allowing three runs, on five hits with two strikeouts.
Austin Baugh pitched 2.1 innings of relief.
The Panthers will travel to Cedarville for their final series of the regular season. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 2PM CT.
