CEDARVILLE, OHIO. – Behind two stellar pitching performances from
Evan Oakley and
Isaac Rose, the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team took care of business on Thursday afternoon. The Panthers won the first two games of a four-game set against Cedarville University. Wesleyan took the opener 7-4 before winning game two 5-2.
The Panthers jumped on top early in game one as they scored twice in the top of the second inning. A throwing error allowed
Cade Gudalis and
Noah Davis to score with two outs. Gudalis kept things moving as he led-off the fifth with a double and later scored on a wild pitch, again with two outs in the inning.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, as the Panthers extended the inning with an error which later led to three runs crossing the plate. Wesleyan bounced right back in the top of the seventh as
Nick Wimber broke the tie with an RBI double down the rightfield line. Wimber later came around to score on an error.
The Panthers added some insurance in the top of the eighth with
Kyle Werries scoring the seventh run on a pass ball. Oakley picked-up the win while
Nick Judd recorded the save. Oakley completed 6.1 innings allowing four runs, one earned on seven hits with eight strikeouts. Judd pitched the final 2.2 innings allowing just two hits with two strikeouts. Gudalis was two for three with double and two runs scored.
In game two, the Panthers again benefited from Yellow Jacket miscues by scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning off a throwing error. The 2-0 lead doubled in the top of the sixth with two more unearned runs.
Isaac Rose needed little help as he pitched a complete game, seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.
Braxton French was two for four with a triple and two runs scored.
The Panthers will have two more games against Cedarville on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 10AM CT.
