CEDARVILLE, OH - The Kentucky Wesleyan Softball team played two close games on Friday, falling 5-3 and 4-3 to the Cedarville Yellow Jackets.
Cedarville moves to 22-27 (15-9 G-MAC), while Wesleyan falls to 16-30 (6-18 G-MAC).
Game One
The Panthers got on the board first in the opener, scoring twice in the opening inning to go up 2-0.
Megan Matheis and
Chloe Apple each notched RBI's to score the Panther's runs. Also of note in the first inning,
Augusta Garr was hit by her G-MAC leading 16th pitch of the year, which is also second all time in a single season in Kentucky Wesleyan history.
Cedarville scored five unanswered runs before Matheis stopped the bleeding with an two-out RBI single to score
Brooke Brown in the fifth. The Panthers failed to put anyone in scoring position over the final two innings and fell 5-3.
Megan Matheis was 2-for-3 with two RBI's, while
Brooke Brown was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Allie Dunn (3-8) struck out five in the loss.
Game Two
The Panthers out hit the Yellow Jackets 8-4 in game two, but a big four-run fourth inning by the home side was enough to take down Wesleyan.
Just as in game one, the Panthers got on the board first, as an
Allie Dunn RBI double in the fourth inning put them up 1-0. In the bottom of hte inning Cedarville got hot, notching all four of both their runs and hits in the inning.
Shelbi Patterson took advantage of a early inning walk to score in the fifth, and despite Wesleyan loading the bases in the top of the seventh, they could only plate one run and fell 4-3.
Allie Dunn was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk in the game, while
Megan Matheis was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Despite the loss,
Kristyn Murphy (4-10) was lights out, allowing just four hits and two earned runs in six innings of work.
The Panthers close their season tomorrow on the road at Thomas More, with the first game starting at 11 a.m. CT.
