CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY - The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team closed their season out on Saturday, getting a split with Thomas More. The Panthers took the first game 5-3, before falling 5-3 in the second.
Wesleyan closes their season out at 17-31 (7-19 G-MAC), while Thomas More ends at 15-35 (9-17 G-MAC).
Game One
The Panthers got their first runs of the game in the top of the third, as sophomore
Megan Matheis hit a two-run shot to right field to score
Augusta Garr and make it 2-1 in favor of the Panthers. Wesleyan extended their lead in the sixth, as
Kristyn Murphy and
Allie Dunn each notched RBI's to put the Panthers up 4-1.
The Saints got runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but an insurance run
Lauren Pellerito in the top of the seventh was enough to secure the 5-3 victory.
With her home run,
Megan Matheis has now hit 18 in her career, already good enough for third on Wesleyan's all time list.
For the game, Matheis was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored, while
Augusta Garr was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Chloe Williams (7-9) struck out four in the complete game victory.
Game Two
Wesleyan got on the board first in the second game, as
Kristyn Murphy hit an RBI single to left field to score
Cam Mann in the first inning. Thomas More answered with a four-run bottom half of the inning to quickly push their lead to three. Wesleyan loaded the bases and scored two runs in the sixth, but it wasn't enough as the Saints held on for the win.
Kristyn Murphy was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the game, while
Megan Matheis was 2-for-3.
Chloe Apple and
Kennedy Matheis each helped out with an RBI.
Allie Dunn (3-9) struck out three in the loss.
