OWENSBORO, KY - The Panthers got their second split of the year with crosstown rival Brescia on Monday night, as they fell 11-2 in the opener and won 4-1 in the nightcap. Senior
Allie Dunn pitched a complete game, two hit gem in the second game to help the Panthers secure the win.
Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 16-24 (6-12 G-MAC), while Brescia sits at 8-23 (6-16 RSC).
Game One
Brescia got the bats going early and often, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings to pull away.
Wesleyan got RBI's from
Brooke Brown and
Lauren Pellerito, and runs from
Chloe Apple and
Allie Dunn.
Chloe Williams (6-8) took the loss.
Game Two
The Panthers struck first in the nightcap, as
Allie Dunn hit an RBI single to score
Megan Matheis in the bottom of the first.
Brescia took advantage of a throwing error and tied things up in the top of the second, but a big fourth inning by the Panthers sealed the deal. With two outs and no one on,
Brooke Brown and
Augusta Garr each hit singles, putting runners on first and second.
Cam Mann then hit a single of her own, and a throwing error by the right fielder allowed both Garr and Brown to score.
Megan Matheis then hit a big RBI double to score Mann and make it a 4-1 game.
Allie Dunn held the Bearcats scoreless the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Megan Matheis was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while
Cam Mann was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Allie Dunn (3-6) pitched the best game of her Wesleyan career, striking out a career high nine batters and allowing just two hits in the ball game.
Softball will be back at it this weekend when they host Tiffin and Findlay in their final home games of the year. The Panthers take on Tiffin in a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday, then face Findlay on Sunday in a doubleheader that doubles as senior day.
