SAINT LEO, FL - The Panthers couldn't dig themselves out of an early hole on Thursday as they fell 13-5 to the #14 ranked Saint Leo Lions.
Saint Leo improves to 14-2 while Wesleyan falls to 1-12.
The Lions went up early, scoring five runs in the first inning and two in the second to quickly get out to a 7-0 lead. The Panthers mounted a small comeback in the fifth, as
Cade Moore hit a 2 RBI single to score
Cade Gudalis and
TJ Williams.
Bryce Zupan followed that up with an RBI single of his own, cutting the lead to just five. Zupan then added two more RBI's in the seventh, as ahis 2 RBI single to score
Owen Stevenson and
Kyle LaVanchy cut the lead to 8-5 in favor of Saint Leo.
A five-run bottom of the eighth for Saint Leo was too much for the Panthers to overcome, as they failed to find a run in the ninth.
Bryce Zupan was 2-for-5 with three RBI's in in the game, while
Cade Moore went 2-for-5 with two RBI's.
Myles Pallister also had a good day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Nick Judd (0-2) struck out two in the loss.
Wesleyan will be back to face the Lions tomorrow in a Friday doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.
