Evan Oakley held the Florida Southern Mocs scoreless for the first five innings on Monday, but two runs in the sixth were enough to put FSC ahead for good, as Wesleyan was only able to muster up one run in the contest, falling 4-1 to the host Mocs.
Florida Southern improves to 7-8, while Wesleyan falls to 1-11.
The first five innings were a pitching duel, as Wesleyan's
Evan Oakley and Florida Southern's Lake Fisher combined to allow just four hits. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mocs took advantage of a few walks and an error to score two runs. Two more runs in the seventh made it 4-0 in favor of the home side. The Panthers had a chance to tie or take the lead in the top of the ninth, as
Braxton French,
Cade Gudalis, and
Braden Vinyard all singled to load the bases with no outs. FSC then got two foul outs and a line out to shut the door on Wesleyan.
Evan Oakley (0-4) struck out eight in the loss.
Braden Vinyard went 2-for-4 on the day, while
Braxton French scored Wesleyan's only run.
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow when they play Florida Southern in the final game of their two-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
