Late heroics help Panthers split with Northwood

OWENSBORO, KY - In a rematch of last year's G-MAC tournament opening round, Wesleyan and Northwood battled on Saturday, with each team picking up a win. Northwood used three runs in the top of the ninth to win 6-3 in the opener, while a walkoff double from Cade Moore game the Panthers a 1-0 victory in game two.

Kentucky Wesleyan is now 6-16 (5-1 G-MAC), while Northwood sits at 10-10 (5-1 G-MAC).

Game One

Northwood got the scoring going in the opener with a solo shot in the top of the first. Kyle Werries answered in the bottom half of the inning, as his RBI groundout scored Cade Moore to tie things up.

The Timberwolves scored two more in the top of the second, extending their lead to 3-1. Wesleyan slowly chipped away, eventually trying it thanks to RBI's from Noah Davis and Cade Gudalis. With the game tied late, NU scored three runs in the top of the ninth to get the win.

Cade Moore was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game, while Cade Gudalis was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Bryant Byrd (0-2) struck out three in the loss.

Game Two

It was a pitchers dual in the second game, as KWC's Isaac Rose and Northwood's Grant LaMarche were in a battle. Neither starter allowed a run, as LaMarche went four innings, while Rose struck out five in six innings of work.

Cade Moore made both the defensive and offensive clutch plays in the game. In the top of the sixth, Moore saw a double-steal attempt happening and threw the Northwood runner out at home, preserving the scoreless game. In the bottom of the eighth, after a great inning from pitcher Austin Baugh, Moore doubled on the first pitch of the game to score Rowan Teran and walkoff the Timberwolves.

Austin Baugh (1-1) got on the mound in the sixth inning and struck out three to help seal the win. Cade Moore was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wesleyan will be back at it tomorrow for another doubleheader against Northwood starting at 12 p.m. CT at Panther Park. It will be a seven inning game followed by a nine inning game.
