COLUMBUS, OH - The Kentucky Wesleyan Softball team took down Ohio Dominican for the first time since 2019 on Sunday, winning the first game of their doubleheader 3-0. The Panthers fell 7-3 in the second contest.
Kentucky Wesleyan improves to 10-14 (1-3 G-MAC), while ODU sits at 13-5 (2-2 G-MAC).
Game One
Chloe Williams (4-3) continues to thrive on the mound, as she delivered what might have been her best performance of the season. The reigning KWC Athlete of the Week threw a complete game shutout and allowed just two hits in the entire contest.
The Panthers got up early, as a
Kristyn Murphy RBI single put Wesleyan up 1-0 in the first. Murphy added to the lead in the top of the sixth, hit an RBI sacrifice fly to double up Wesleyan's lead.
Kennedy Matheis put a stamp on the win with an RBI double two batters later.
ODU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Williams got a popup to the shortstop to seal the victory.
Cam Mann went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while
Kristyn Murphy was 1-for-2 with two RBI's.
Game Two
Ohio Dominican went up early in the second game, scoring two runs in the second inning. Wesleyan answered back in the third, as
Cam Mann got things going with an RBI to score
Grace Colvin.
Megan Matheis then put the Panthers ahead with her fifth home run of the year, scoring
Augusta Garr and making it a 3-2 game.
ODU scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings, and added one in the sixth to seal the win.
Six separate Panthers registered a hit in the game, with
Megan Matheis going 1-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Allie Dunn (0-3) took the loss for Wesleyan.
The Panthers return home to Foster Field next weekend when they host Lake Erie and Ursuline on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT both days.
