Panthers Clinch a Share of G-MAC Regular Season Title with Win over ODU

OWENSBORO, KY – The 25th Nationally ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team produced a convincing 94-54 win over Ohio Dominican on Thursday evening. The Panthers were playing in their first game since earning a national ranking earlier this week. It is the Panthers' first top-25 appearance since the 2017 season. Also, out this week was the initial NCAA Midwest Regional rankings, where the Panthers earned the number two spot behind the University of Indianapolis. Not to forget the Panthers were picked to finish eighth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference by the leagues head coaches back in October.

With the 40-point victory, the Panthers moved to 21-6 on the season with a 15-4 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The victory also marks at least a share of the GMAC regular season title for Wesleyan. Ohio Dominican fell to 5-21 with the loss.

The Panthers made a concentrated effort to get the ball in the post, especially against the a short-handed and undersized ODU team. Borja Fernandez scored the opening basket of the game and six of the Panthers' first nine points.

Midway through the opening half, Logan McIntire forced a turnover and slammed home a thunderous dunk, giving the Panthers a 28-12 lead. Wesleyan shot 55% in the opening half, including a seven of 16 clip from the three-point line to take a 46-30 lead at the break.

The second half saw more offense from the Panthers as McIntire's three five minutes into the frame extended the advantage to 60-35. With less than 10 minutes left in the game the lead sat comfortably at 31 points, allowing the Head Coach Drew Cooper to balance minutes throughout the roster.

Fernandez finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Both Kaeveon Mitchell and Kennedy Miles each added 12 points. Miles also recorded seven rounds and seven assists. NaVuan Peterson recorded 10 points and three blocks off the bench. Alex Gray scored six, grabbed five rounds, and dished out seven assists.

The Panthers will host their final regular season game on Saturday, a match-up against Trevecca Nazarene University. Tip-off at the historic Owensboro Sportscenter is scheduled for 2:15PM.
