PEPPER PIKE, OH. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team took care of business on road Saturday. Fresh off a 40-point victory at Cedarville, the Panthers defeated Ursuline College 62-59. With the win, Panthers have safely secured a home game for the quarterfinals of the Great Midwest Conference Tournament to begin on March 5
th.
In a game that featured four times and six lead changes, the Panthers moved to 19-5 and 14-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Arrows fall to 17-9 and 10-8 in league play.
Shaylee McDonald buried a three-point jumper at the end of the first quarter to give the Panthers a 16-14 lead. Wesleyan quickly extended the lead to five points in the second quarter, but the Arrows bounced back to take a 29-28 lead with three minutes left in the opening half.
Sydnee Richetto's layup returned an advantage to the Panthers, while four points from McDonald before time expired helped Wesleyan go into the locker-room with a 33-31 lead. The start of the second half went back and forth before Wesleyan took control. Tied at 36, the Panthers embarked on a 12-1 run to take a double-digit 48-37 lead.
The Panthers lead began to shrink in the fourth quarter and with a layup the Arrows were within 60-57 with 30 seconds left in the game. Forced to foul, the Richetto went to the charity stripe and converted the needed free throws to put the game away.
Richetto finished 19 points and six rebounds. McDonald and
Jordan Gillies each added 13 points. The Panthers outrebounded the Arrows 39-29.
Jordyn Barga pulled-in seven rebound while
Corina Conley grabbed six rebounds.
The Panthers will return to the Owensboro Sportscenter for their last home stand of the season on Thursday to host Ohio Dominican. Tip-off is schedule for 5:30PM.
